The Real Self/Body - Part 5

THE REAL SELF/BODY - Part 5
READING 1597-1
In giving the interpretations of the records here, as we find there are many experiences that in the application of the opportunities might not be called complimentary to the entity.
Yet these, as they produce urges, must be met in the experiences of the entity in the earth's sojourn - or that environ in which they influence the entity the more.
Thus we find how that it is indeed through grace and mercy that there is continuously before man, before each entity, the opportunity for choosing that in the experience which will be to the glory of the Creative Forces (call them what we will or may), to the better self, rather than to that influence which may be for the gratifying of appetites; or for experiences where it would appear that the shorter way would be needed, or that the lack of discipline within the real self would make for hardships or the lack of the gratifying of desires.
Desire, as will, is a portion then of the spiritual self. It is a continuous thing. Then gratifying of self, or the gratification for itself alone, may oft turn and rend they that would indulge in same without standards, ideals, or the showing forth of a purposefulness in the experience or activity.
The records as we find them, then, and in the interpretation of same - these are chosen that the hope in the individual may be stimulated to that activity as to bring into the experience and consciousness of the entity the desire to be more and more at a oneness with the Creative Forces.
Thus the entity may live, experience a purposeful life; making the environs for others much more comely, a much more hopeful place. Or the world will be a better place for the self having given, and brought into the experience of others, hope in the eternal; which is the good that may come to the experience of every entity that seeks to know His will.
In the reading or interpreting of the records that are written, or that are impressions upon what we call time and space:
We find that with patience we may learn of same, that - being forewarned - we may be forearmed; and thus see ourselves as we have recorded same upon that manifestation of Creative Forces or Energies AS time and space.
Time and space are occupied or are peopled with the elements, or spheres, that become activities for souls or entities in their journey through time and space; seeking that home not built with hands but with the thoughts and with the deeds and with the manners in which we have dealt with our fellow souls, our fellow beings.
Hence we find these as places, or as spheres - or as planets; sojournings in that environ, not as individuals as we know them in the material experience of the earth but in that form fitted to that environ during the interims between earthly incarnations.
Thus we find it has been accredited by students, sages, men of renown of old, that the astrological aspects have an influence upon the activities of individuals in a material sojourn.
Rather, we find that the entity - the ENTITY - has influenced the stars or the planets, or the various phases of moon or sun, by its activity. And in THAT manner they become as influences in the experience of the entity in the present. In the same manner as the study in this material experience of any subject that is considered of the arts or sciences. The KNOWLEDGE of same influences the entity as an individual to act in such and such a way or manner under circumstances or conditions in which the use of such knowledge becomes a part of the experience.
Thus we find the astrological aspects influencing INNATELY. Not aware, at all times, yet knowing within self there is an urge in this or that direction.
These become (the astrological aspects) a portion of the MENTAL or the spiritual-mental self.
Just so do the material sojourns in the earth leave in the senses of the individual the inclinations in given directions.
Just as the entity - by those who have had authority; whether as teacher, minister or what - has been often warned as to its associations, as to the character of individuals with whom the entity would or did or might associate itself in activities.
Why these urges? Because of those innate forces that have produced within the UNSEEN forces the impelling influences IN the emotions of the entity as a being.
For you have a physical body, a mental body, a spiritual body - or soul. These are DEFINITE influences or phases of your experience. They are ONE in manifestation in the material plane.
Just as you know from your spiritual interpretations, and from that you have been taught, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are One; so are your body, mind and soul one.
These in their phases then, and with their attributes, are to be dealt with in that manner as you would those unseen influences which you know are the real - yes, the greater influences and forces in your experience.
All of these then bespeak most of what? Continuity of consciousness, continuity of life!
LIFE then is the expression in the material forces of that Creative Energy we may call God, Lord, Father. All of these are one in their influence in our experience.
Then, your sojourns in Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Uranus, all have brought or have a bearing innately upon your MENTAL self, rather than the physical.
For the activity is first in spirit, then in mind, and THEN it may become a MATERIAL manifestation. One is the projection as it were of the other into materialization, as we see about us in the earth.
In Venus we find the influences of beauty, love of friendship; the desire for knowledge of the unseen forces becoming a part of the entity innately. There are LONGINGS within to know of those things that are mysterious; as Love itself in the physical, mental or spiritual experience.
The WHY is the question ever in the entity's experience. And too easily, from those influences of Mercury, they may be reasoned away (the real answers to the questions from within) and the easier way chosen for the moment.
Yet - as in Jupiter - the might, the power, the duty, the station or position in material or mental influence holds a check as it were upon such influences in the experiences of the entity.
Just so do we find that Saturn's forces have brought, do bring, the sudden changes, the questionable influences, the things which the entity must constantly eradicate as it were from itself; whether as a thought, or a habit, or an associate, or an environment; and begin as it were all over again.
Let each of these influences then be rather as a stepping-stone.
For if this entity - as others - will embrace and be embraced with that thought, that idea which is the basis of faith and hope, "Have Thy way with me, O Lord! Not my will but Thine be done," and hold to same, it will be as a guiding light, as a criterion in every influence. And it may save much suffering, it may ease many a disappointment, it may bring light to the entity often out of shadows and out of the slough of doubt, and out of the casements of fear!
As to the appearances or sojourns in the earth, we find that not all are indicated or given at once - but those that in this particular cycle of experience have the greater influence or bearing upon the entity's opportunity for development.
For, as the very influences of the body are a growth day by day, so is the spiritual development a growth. We are told that in each seven years we are entirely new. Rather is it not true that SOME portion is new each day? It is a growth! For it is moment by moment, and not WHOLLY cycle by cycle, that the change comes.
Hence we are told - and we will experience in our relationships with the Father, materially, mentally and spiritually - that we grow in grace, in knowledge, in understanding.
And it is not the experience alone that makes for the growth, but what we HAVE done, what we will do with same! For it is the DOING, rather, that makes for either a steppingstone or a stumblingblock in our journey to give an account of the deeds done in the body, before our Lord, our Master!
READING 1597-1 EXPLAINED
Reading 1597-1 is not trying to flatter the personality. It is speaking to the REAL SELF — the deeper continuity of you that existed before this body and will continue after it. Cayce begins by saying that some of the soul’s past experiences are “not complimentary.” In other words, the record of the REAL SELF includes mistakes, indulgences, shortcuts, undisciplined desires, and choices that created imbalance. But these are not mentioned to shame the person. They are mentioned because they create urges that must now be faced. What we call temptation, habit, attraction, fear, or emotional pull are not random — they are unfinished energies within the real body of the soul seeking resolution.
The REAL SELF, in Cayce’s language, is not the ego. It is not the personality that wants comfort or applause. It is the spiritual core that has will and desire. He says clearly: desire and will belong to the spiritual self. That means desire itself is not evil. Desire is creative energy. But when desire is used only for self-gratification — without standards, ideals, or purpose — it can “turn and rend” the individual. In other words, undisciplined desire eventually harms the one who indulges it. The lack of discipline within the REAL SELF produces hardship. So the issue is not desire, but alignment.
The reading emphasizes something crucial: there is always an opportunity to choose. Grace and mercy mean that at every moment the REAL SELF can choose what aligns with the Creative Forces (God), rather than what merely satisfies appetite. The soul is not trapped by its past. It is influenced by it, but not imprisoned by it. Every urge becomes a fork in the road. One direction strengthens unity with the Creative Source. The other strengthens fragmentation.
Cayce then shifts to the idea of “records” written in time and space. This is a profound statement about the REAL BODY. Your life is not just physical tissue. It is a field of consciousness that records impressions. Time and space are described almost like a living archive where the soul’s activities are imprinted. When he says “forewarned is forearmed,” he means that self-knowledge allows the REAL SELF to respond consciously rather than react mechanically. Awareness strengthens the inner body.
Then comes one of the most important structural statements: you have a physical body, a mental body, and a spiritual body — and they are ONE in manifestation. This is Cayce’s view of the REAL BODY. You are not three separate things. You are one life expressing through three layers. Just as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are described as One, so body, mind, and soul function as one unified system. What begins in spirit moves into mind, and then into material expression. Activity is first spiritual, then mental, then physical. The physical body is the outermost projection of deeper forces.
This is why he reframes astrology in an unusual way. Instead of saying the stars control you, he suggests the ENTITY influenced those patterns through prior activity. The so-called astrological influences are residues of previous soul expressions. They become innate tendencies within the mental-spiritual self. In simple terms: your REAL SELF has momentum. That momentum shows up as inclinations — toward beauty (Venus), curiosity and reasoning (Mercury), power and responsibility (Jupiter), disruption and restructuring (Saturn), and so on. These are not fatalistic controls. They are psychological-spiritual tendencies carried within the deeper body of consciousness.
The REAL BODY therefore contains memory beyond one lifetime. It carries impressions from experiences in different “spheres” or states of being. These are not described as fantasy worlds but as phases of soul development between incarnations. The soul adapts to each environment, gathering tendencies that later express through mind and emotion in earthly life. What you feel as emotional impulse may originate in unseen layers of your own continuity.
Yet none of these influences remove responsibility. The reading repeatedly returns to growth. Spiritual development is not a fixed cycle completed every seven years. It is moment-by-moment growth. Something in you is renewed every day. The REAL SELF is dynamic. It is constantly being shaped by what you DO with experience. Experience alone does not create growth. Response creates growth. Action determines whether something becomes a stepping-stone or a stumbling block.
The phrase “continuity of consciousness” is central. The REAL SELF does not disappear at death. Life is the expression of Creative Energy through matter. The soul journeys through time and space seeking “a home not built with hands” — meaning a state of consciousness built through thought, deed, and relationship. The REAL BODY is being constructed through how you treat others, how you discipline desire, and how you align will.
Finally, Cayce offers a stabilizing principle for the REAL SELF: “Not my will but Thine be done.” This is not passive resignation. It is alignment of personal will with Creative Will. When the REAL SELF embraces this orientation, the many influences — planetary, emotional, mental, habitual — become stepping-stones rather than traps. Suffering decreases. Confusion lessens. Fear loses dominance. The inner body gains coherence.
SUMMARY
This reading presents the REAL SELF as:
A continuous spiritual consciousness expressing through mind and body
The source of desire and will
The carrier of past impressions and tendencies
The decision-maker at every moment
The architect of its own future through action
A unified being of spirit, mind, and flesh
A growing entity, renewed moment by moment
A co-creator with the Creative Forces
The REAL BODY is not merely your physical organism. It is the integrated field of spirit, mind, and matter through which Creative Energy flows. Growth occurs when desire is disciplined, when awareness replaces reaction, and when will aligns with the higher pattern of purpose. What you are becoming is not determined by what has happened to you — but by what you choose to do with what has happened.

The Real Self/Body - Part 4

READING 1581-2
(Q) Will you give me suggestions as to how to improve my work in school, and my memory?
(A) Let that be rather as this:
That which ye would attain in the studies as to that which is a text, a thesis or a theory, - mull same as it were in thy mind, in thy consciousness. Then lay it aside, and meditate rather upon its application in every way and manner. Do this especially just before ye would rest in physical consciousness, or from physical consciousness, - or in sleep. And ye will find thy memory, thy ability to analyze, thy ability to maintain and retain greater principles will be thy experience.
For remember that the principle is throughout physical, mental and spiritual alike. For thy body is physical, mental and spiritual. Each phase of same has its individual attributes, but ALL - and that alone that is eternal - is spiritual in its essence.
Hence in the physical application ye pass to, through the physical eye, or through the ear, or through the sense of consciousness, that as of a physical law, or as a physical thesis, as a physical theory. This ye pass for judgment to thy mental consciousness, and in the laying aside of thy physical consciousness the spiritual attributes record same as it were upon thy real self.
Hence the GROWTH to encompass same is natural, - just as ye find illustrated in thy interpretation of harmony in thy musical interpretations that are set before thee from time to time.
READING 1581-2 EXPLAINED
In this reading, when 1581 asks how to improve memory and school performance, the response goes far beyond ordinary study advice. It quietly explains how the real self actually learns. It says that when you are studying something — a theory, a text, an idea — you should first turn it over in your mind. Think about it carefully. Let your brain work with it. Try to understand it, not just repeat it. This is the physical and mental level of learning. Your eyes read, your ears hear, your brain analyzes. But then the advice shifts. Instead of pushing harder, it says to lay it aside and reflect on how it applies. Ask yourself how this idea works in real life. Where does it show up? Why does it matter? And then, most importantly, do this especially before you go to sleep. That detail reveals something profound. When you fall asleep, your physical awareness quiets down. Your senses are no longer pulling your attention outward. Your thinking mind is no longer trying to control everything. And in that quiet space, the deeper part of you — what the reading calls the spiritual essence — records what has been understood onto your real self.
The real self here is not your personality, not your mood, not your surface thoughts. It is the deeper core of who you are — the part that endures, the part that is growing beneath your daily reactions. The reading explains that you are physical, mental, and spiritual all at once. Each level has its own role, but only the spiritual essence is eternal. When you study something through your senses, it passes into your mind for judgment and analysis. But when you release physical consciousness in sleep, what you have truly engaged with is impressed upon that deeper spiritual layer. In other words, real learning happens when knowledge becomes part of your being, not just part of your short-term memory.
This is why growth becomes natural. When something is recorded in the real self, you do not have to strain to remember it. It begins to shape how you think. It becomes intuitive. The reading compares this to harmony in music. When you first learn music, you memorize notes. But eventually harmony becomes something you feel. It lives inside you. You do not calculate every sound; you recognize it. In the same way, when principles sink into the real self, they stop being facts you hold and start becoming patterns you live from.

Seen this way, improving memory is not about cramming or forcing information into your brain. It is about engaging deeply, reflecting honestly, and then allowing integration to happen in rest. Modern neuroscience talks about how the brain consolidates memory during sleep. This reading adds another layer — that beyond the brain’s reorganization, there is a deeper identity being shaped. The real self is like an inner foundation that grows stronger each time truth is absorbed rather than just memorized. The physical self gathers information, the mental self examines it, and the real self becomes formed by it. When learning reaches that level, retention increases because the knowledge is no longer separate from you — it has become part of who you are. That is why the process feels natural rather than forced. The real self does not just store information; it grows through integration. And when growth happens at that depth, understanding becomes stable, memory becomes stronger, and learning becomes transformation rather than pressure.

The Real Self/Body - Part 3

READING 1248-1
As we find, these are from the astrological aspects - but know that these are ONLY as inclinations. And the will of the self or of the entity may change these often.
DO NOT confuse self, then, with that which is of a selfish nature and that which is of its import spiritual in its aspect, intent and purpose. For as has been indicated, these will be inclinations in the present experience.
Those influences then from Venus we find making the inclinations for one while not exactly the clinging type, or of a demure nature, we do find it rather eccentric in its friendships, in its inclinations - and these as we find have been questioned by others.
Know that no meeting with other individuals is chance. RATHER should it be - and is - as an opportunity not only for self-expression but for the expression of that for which the real self stands.
Hence we will find that beauty of manner, beauty of speech, ease of expressing itself, will become more and more beautiful - if the ideals and the purposes are set in those desires of a spiritual aspect.
This does not intend to indicate a long-facedness, or never thinking of that as would in the present day parlance be called "a good time," but rather that each activity has a PURPOSE in itself - and these will make for then those influences for a tendency to grow more and more BEAUTIFUL in the expression of self and in the choice of relationships, companionships, associations, those conditions that are to become and are becoming a portion of the real inner self.
Time to the entity appears so oft to be such an important factor, and "This must be accomplished now." Hence those tendencies for impatience must be turned rather to understanding that the seed sown in act or word today brings in due season the flower, the stem and the fruits thereof. For an immutable law in materiality, in mentality, in spirituality, is that what ye sow ye reap. And WAIT on those influences for the KNOWING what the fruit of that act, that deed, that word may be that is given day by day.
This does not make for solemnity, rather does it make for joyousness. And every experience then in life and in the associations may be taken as a beautiful game, as a wonderment, with each day bringing joy, health, strength for the natural inclinations and vitality of the body - barring accidents. And beware of speeding trains, cars, or anything that goes TOO FAST! For THESE are a portion of the inclinations in self. Without these the body in this experience, even from its sojourns in the Venus influence, the environs thereof, should be rather beautiful in mind, in body and in disposition. But the DISPOSITION ye make!
READING 1248-1 EXPLAINED
The influences described — astrological or otherwise — are only tendencies in the personality. They are surface movements. They belong to temperament, to habit, to inclination. But they are not the core identity. The real self is deeper than influence. It is deeper than mood. It is deeper than inherited pattern. The reading makes this very clear when it says not to confuse the self with selfishness. The selfish nature is reactive, impatient, image-driven, or desire-driven. The REAL SELF is spiritual in intent, purpose, and direction.
The real self is the part of you that knows why you are here.
Venus is described as giving certain inclinations — unusual friendships, unconventional attractions, a slightly eccentric relational style. Others may question these choices. But the reading is not concerned with social approval. It is concerned with whether those relationships allow the real self to express itself. No meeting is by chance because every encounter is an opportunity for the real self to become visible. Every relationship is a stage on which the deeper identity either hides or reveals itself.
The real self is not passive. It is not shy. It is not defined by what others think. It expresses through beauty of speech, beauty of manner, ease of presence — but only when ideals are aligned with spiritual purpose. When motives are clear and elevated, expression becomes naturally refined. Beauty becomes the outer sign of inner alignment.
The reading also addresses impatience. The personality feels urgency — “This must be done now.” But impatience belongs to the outer self, the ego layer that wants quick results. The real self understands law. It understands sowing and reaping. It understands that every word, every act, every intention plants something in consciousness. Growth unfolds in season. The real self trusts process.
Waiting, then, is not weakness. It is strength. It is alignment with how reality actually works.
The reading also says life is not meant to become solemn or heavy. The real self is not grim or rigid. It carries joy. It approaches experience as a beautiful unfolding — almost like a game of discovery. Each day becomes an opportunity to express vitality, health, and presence. When aligned, the system is naturally harmonious.
Then there is the warning about speed — about things that go too fast. This is more than physical caution. It reflects the tendency of the outer self to accelerate beyond wisdom. The real self does not rush. It moves with strength but not recklessness. It understands rhythm. It knows timing.
The closing line is the most revealing: the disposition ye make.
Disposition is not destiny. It is chosen. The real self is beautiful in mind, body, and spirit by design. But the tone of life — whether impatient or peaceful, reactive or radiant — is shaped by the will.
In essence, the reading is saying:
You are not your tendencies.
You are not your impulses.
You are not your impatience.
The REAL SELF is the spiritual core that chooses.
It uses inclinations as tools.
It transforms relationships into growth.
It turns urgency into trust.
It refines beauty through intention.
It moves with joy instead of pressure.
And the life you experience outwardly becomes a reflection of how faithfully that real self is allowed to lead.
