Universal Attraction in the Edgar Cayce Readings - Part 2

Posted on Facebook by Samoa Lualima

We Attract Through What We Are

The readings describe universal attraction as a spiritual law working through consciousness, motive and action. We do not attract constructive people and opportunities simply by wishing for them. We begin by developing within ourselves the same spiritual qualities that we hope to find outside ourselves. When one person asked, “How can I best draw people of the right vibration to me?” the answer was direct: “By the correct vibration in self. Like begets like” [2842-2].
This means that the first work is always within. If we want honest relationships, we must become honest. If we want faithful friends, we must express faithfulness. If we want peace, we must cultivate peace in our thoughts and actions. If we want spiritually minded companions, we must live according to a spiritual ideal. Our inner condition becomes an influence that affects what we recognize, encourage and draw toward ourselves.
The reading compares this process to musical tones: “Toned to a tone brings the proper tone from the perfect radiation of such” [2842-2]. When one musical note is sounded, another instrument tuned to that note may begin to vibrate. In a similar way, the qualities that we express awaken a response in people who are sensitive to those same qualities.
Every Person Radiates an Inner Tone
The readings teach that every person is constantly radiating something. “Each entity RADIATES that tone, that reflection of the concept of its creative force” [2842-2]. This inner tone is not produced by occasional positive thinking. It arises from the deeper pattern of our beliefs, desires, fears, ideals and habitual conduct.
What we say is important, but the spirit behind our words is even more powerful. Another reading explains, “It is the spirit with which a thing is said that carries the force or power” [1497-5]. Two people may speak almost identical words, yet their influence can be completely different. One may speak from love and a desire to help, while another speaks from fear, pride or a desire to control. The words may sound similar, but the spiritual force carried by them is not the same.
This is why attraction cannot be successfully manufactured through appearance, charm or persuasive language alone. People may temporarily be impressed by these things, but the deeper influence comes from the motive within the individual. The readings ask us to examine the force that moves us: Are we acting from fear, self-exaltation and personal ambition, or are we trying to become a channel through which greater service may be given?
Attraction Begins With Inner Attunement
Reading 2842-2 connects attraction with prayer and inner communion with God. It recalls the teaching that when we pray, we should enter the inner closet and meet the Father who sees in secret. The “closet” may be understood as the quiet inner self where we examine our motives and attune our consciousness to God.
This inner attunement changes the spiritual tone we radiate. The reading says that “each atom of the entity radiates that vibration to which it attunes itself” [2842-2]. In other words, what we continually turn toward gradually becomes part of us. If we dwell upon fear, fear begins to colour our reactions. If we continually turn toward God, love, truth and service, these qualities begin to shape our thoughts, words, decisions and relationships.
Universal attraction is possible because all souls come from the same Source. The reading describes individuals as sparks of the one Creative Energy and declares that “ALL are of ONE SPIRIT” [2842-2]. Although people express many different personalities and levels of awareness, their spiritual origin is one. Through attunement to God, individuals who share constructive ideals may recognize and strengthen one another.
What We Dwell Upon, We Become
Reading 2034-1 gives one of the strongest warnings in this collection: “That ye dwell upon, that ye become.” This does not mean that every passing thought immediately becomes a physical event. It means that whatever we repeatedly feed with attention begins to shape our character and influence our experience.
If a person continually dwells upon resentment, resentment gradually becomes part of the person’s way of seeing life. If someone constantly expects betrayal, that fear may influence how the person interprets and treats others. It can create the very tension and separation that the person fears. In contrast, dwelling upon patience, truth and Christlike love develops a consciousness that can recognize and create more constructive possibilities.
The same reading adds, “That ye hate suddenly befalls thee” [2034-1]. This should not be used to blame people for every misfortune. Rather, it warns that hatred binds us mentally and emotionally to the very thing we oppose. We may become harsh while fighting harshness, intolerant while condemning intolerance, or dishonest while trying to defeat dishonesty. To overcome evil spiritually, we must not allow its nature to become our own.
The answer is to establish an ideal higher than our immediate emotions. “To meet or become the law, these must be IDEAL forces and not of the earth-earthy” [2034-1]. A spiritual ideal—especially the life and spirit of Christ—gives the mind a constructive pattern upon which to dwell.
Attraction Brings What Is Needed for Development
The readings do not say that we always attract what is pleasant. They teach that we may draw toward ourselves the people, conditions and opportunities necessary for soul development. Reading 2842-2 says that each individual brings into experience “those conditions, those individuals, those vibrations that are necessary for its own development.”
This helps explain why some important relationships are difficult. A relationship may expose fear, dependency, pride, jealousy or an unresolved pattern within us. The purpose is not necessarily suffering for its own sake. The difficulty gives us an opportunity to understand ourselves and choose a more constructive response.
Reading 2021-1 says that attraction may give a person the opportunity “to meet self; and thus correct much that had been and is in the way of development for the soul-entity.” To “meet self” means that life brings us face-to-face with our own inner patterns. Other people often act as mirrors. Through our reactions to them, we discover qualities within ourselves that might otherwise remain hidden.
This does not mean that a person should remain in an abusive or destructive situation. Sometimes the spiritual lesson is to establish a boundary, seek help or leave. The essential question is not, “How can I endure everything?” but, “What is the most loving, truthful and constructive response available to me?”
Fear Can Distort Attraction
In reading 2842-2, fear and dread are identified as the individual’s main karmic challenge. Fear had created aversion, emotional difficulty and resistance to certain relationships. The answer was not to force an artificial attraction but to understand and overcome the fear within self.
Fear changes the tone we radiate. It may cause us to withdraw from good people, distrust genuine kindness or become attracted to controlling personalities who appear to offer security. Fear can also make us repeat familiar patterns because the familiar feels safer than the unknown, even when it is unhealthy.
The reading teaches that fear is overcome through self-understanding and alignment with the Creative Energy. When an action is consistent with the divine law of love and constructive purpose, fear of consequences should not control us. But when everything is centred upon “I”—personal pride, possession or self-protection—the individual meets resistance “as of against the stone wall” [2842-2].
The spiritual correction is not greater self-importance but greater understanding. The individual was encouraged to understand other people’s viewpoints and the different ways through which they perceive God. Such understanding weakens fear because it replaces separation with spiritual recognition.
Destiny Is Not Fatalism
Reading 2799-1 explains that an urge may draw a person toward a particular experience, but this does not mean that events happen regardless of individual action. Attraction creates tendencies and opportunities; it does not remove free will.
A person may feel drawn toward a particular occupation, place, friendship or form of service because it connects with something already developed within the soul. Yet the outcome depends upon what the individual does with that attraction. The same relationship can become constructive or destructive depending upon the ideals, motives and choices of those involved.
Universal attraction therefore works together with free will. It may bring people to the same doorway, but it does not decide how they will treat one another after they meet. It may present an opportunity, but each person must choose whether to use it for selfish gratification or spiritual growth.
Relationships Are Shaped by Shared Ideals
Reading 1981-2 gives an especially practical explanation of attraction within close relationships. Two people may share a strong attraction because they have unfinished experiences or deep connections from the past. Yet such a connection does not automatically guarantee a happy marriage or spiritually helpful companionship.
The reading says that each person could be overpowered by the personality of the other. Their relationship could become “a beautiful companionship,” or it could result in “the belittling of one or the other” [1981-2]. The deciding factor was whether they could coordinate their ideals and purposes and encourage the highest qualities in each other.
This is a crucial distinction. A strong attraction is only spiritual potential. It becomes constructive when both people direct it toward a shared ideal. Without that ideal, emotional attraction may become dependency, domination or self-indulgence.
The reading also rejects the idea that only one predestined person can make us happy. When asked whether each person could find another suitable marriage partner, the response was, “O we might find twenty-five or thirty such, if you chose to make it so! It is what you make it!” [1981-2]. This places responsibility upon the individuals rather than upon fate. Happiness is not guaranteed by discovering one perfect “soulmate.” It is created as two people choose patience, cooperation, faithfulness and a higher purpose.
The Spiritual Test of a Relationship
Reading 1981-2 provides a direct test for deciding how an attraction should be used. It asks whether the relationship is helping the material and selfish nature or the spiritual nature. The answer is memorable: “If the spiritual, go to it fast! If ONLY for material and self-indulgence, and self-gratification, back off very quickly!” [1981-2].
This does not mean that material happiness, physical attraction or shared enjoyment is wrong. The warning concerns relationships governed only by self-gratification. A constructive relationship should help both people become more truthful, loving, responsible and useful. It should strengthen their ability to serve God and others rather than narrowing their lives around personal desire.
The same test can be applied to friendship, work and group associations. Does this connection bring out the better self, or does it continually strengthen vanity, dishonesty, resentment or selfish ambition? Does it help both people grow, or does one personality diminish and control the other? Attraction should be judged by its fruits.
Past Associations Are Possibilities, Not Sentences
Several readings interpret present attractions as continuations of former associations. Reading 1981-2 describes relationships that had been constructive in one period and unhelpful in another. This shows that a past connection is not automatically good or bad. It brings tendencies, but present choices determine what those tendencies become.
A neutral attraction may be made helpful. A previously difficult relationship may be transformed through better ideals. Even an association that once produced cooperation can become destructive if selfishness takes control. The important matter is not simply who the individuals may have been to one another, but what they choose to create together now.
The reading repeatedly points toward “mutual development.” This means that relationships are not given merely for comfort or personal advantage. Their highest purpose is to help each person become a constructive influence in the life of the other and in the lives of those around them.
Abundance as a Result, Not the Highest Goal
Universal attraction also applies to material needs, but the readings approach abundance very differently from modern prosperity teachings. When asked whether one had the right to demand abundance, the answer was: “Be CONTENT with what thou hast, but never be SATISFIED with what thou hast” [2842-2].
To be content means to remain grateful and faithful in present circumstances. To be unsatisfied means not becoming spiritually passive or failing to develop our abilities. We may seek improvement without bitterness, greed or the belief that possessions determine our worth.
The reading says that abundance belongs to those who come into accord with the truths of the Creative Energy [2842-2]. This does not promise unlimited wealth to every spiritual person. In context, abundance means that what is necessary for fulfilling one’s constructive purpose can be supplied. The emphasis is upon reflecting the Creative Energy, not demanding that God serve personal desire.
Reading 1497-5 gives a practical example. The individual was encouraged to make their abilities known and offer useful counsel to others. Opportunities and financial support would follow through applied service. The principle was not passive wishing. The person had to prepare, speak, act and make their abilities available—while maintaining the spirit of helpfulness.
Service Attracts Constructive Opportunities
Reading 1497-5 explains that when a person sincerely offers their abilities for the benefit of others, that activity “will draw that which IS constructive in its experience.” The attraction follows the expenditure of self in service.
This is an important balance between spiritual attunement and practical action. Prayer prepares the inner consciousness, but the individual must then act. Someone seeking appropriate employment should develop useful abilities, let others know what they can offer and approach opportunities in a spirit of helpfulness. Someone seeking friendship must become friendly. Someone seeking a spiritual community must participate and contribute.
The reading also warns that fear and self-exaltation attract failure. When we act mainly to prove our importance or protect ourselves from imagined disaster, our own motive weakens the work. But when we see ourselves as a channel through which others may be helped, “those natural results follow” [1497-5].
Even then, the readings remind us that human effort is not the only source of growth: “The Creative Forces or God giveth the increase” [1497-5]. We prepare, apply ourselves and serve, but we allow God to determine the form and timing of the increase.
Our Lives Influence Others More Than We Realize
Reading 1981-2 tells one individual that other people copied what she did and repeated what she said, although she had not fully recognized her influence. This illustrates another dimension of universal attraction: every life is a teaching life.
We teach not only through formal instruction but through the emotional and spiritual atmosphere we create. Family members, friends and colleagues may respond to our conduct even when they do not openly acknowledge it. Consistency, sincerity and persistence can quietly awaken similar qualities in others.
This makes attraction a responsibility. Personal influence should not be used to create followers centred upon our personality. It should direct people toward truth, hope and constructive action. The reading reminds the individual of her obligations to Christ, “who is the way, the truth and the light” [1981-2]. The highest influence does not draw people merely toward us; it helps draw them toward God.
The Deeper Meaning of Universal Attraction
Taken together, these readings teach that universal attraction operates through inner attunement, repeated thought, emotional patterns, personal conduct and spiritual purpose. We attract not only through what we consciously want, but through the total tone of what we are becoming.
The law is not a magical formula for controlling events or obtaining possessions. It is a law of spiritual correspondence. Like responds to like, yet relationships and circumstances may also arise because they expose something that must be healed or provide what the soul needs for development. Attraction gives the opportunity; free will determines how the opportunity is used.
The safest way to work with this law is not to concentrate upon obtaining a particular person or material result. It is to become inwardly attuned to God, establish Christ as the ideal, and express that ideal through practical service. We can then trust that the people, resources and opportunities necessary for our development and service will be drawn into experience in the right way and at the right time.
Become within yourself the spiritual quality you hope to meet in life. Dwell upon the ideal, examine your motives, overcome fear, and put love into action. What is truly constructive will then have a corresponding place within your consciousness through which it may enter and grow.

EDGAR CAYCE READINGS ON UNIVERSAL ATTRACTION

(Q) Am I working out my destiny rightly by taking little children into our home?
(A) As given, the problem, the development for the entity, may and should - and WILL - be gained in such development; for in this, as given, is the development for the entity, meeting those conditions that were lacking in the development through those experiences in the earth's plane as given.
That troubles arise, that there is seen the complex that arises from fear within - this fear, this complex, will only be understood by the proper UNDERSTANDING of self. That there is such is the natural development of conditions as were brought in the life, and in life these are met, and those dreads, those fears, are the karmic forces in action.
(Q) How can I best draw people of the right vibration to me?
(A) By the correct vibration in self. Like begets like. Toned to a tone brings the proper tone from the perfect radiation of such. Each entity RADIATES that tone, that reflection of the concept of its creative force. Each entity each atom of the entity radiates that vibration to which it attunes itself. Each entity contacts, each entity brings that about itself by putting into action laws, those conditions, those individuals, those vibrations that are necessary for its own development. Hence has it oft been given, when thou prayest enter into thine closet, or into thine self, and thine Father that see-eth in secret shall reward thee openly. When thou attunes thine self to those vibrations, those necessary developments of thine own soul, the rewards are as that given - the end of that vibrated, for they are one. And while secularly or materially these may seem far afield, yet even unto the ends of the earth, even unto the beginning and end of time, the vibration, the truth of those forces of the creative energy are one, and - attuned - these bring those of the same attunement, for ALL are of ONE SPIRIT, and the various variations are those creations as sparks are of that which set same in motion, for all are a portion of that first Creative Energy - God.
(Q) Please tell me what my karma is, in order that I may strive to overcome it.
(A) Overcome that fear and dread in self. That is the karma. That is that to be conquered in self, for this applies to the entity in its secular, physical, mental, and spiritual body - for, as is seen, when the body physical, mental or spiritual has set self to disregard fear of consequences, so long as that activity was in keeping with the first law of the directed or creative energy, all well! but when applied in the manner of I! the vibration has brought that as of against the stone wall.
(Q) Why have I always had more or less of an aversion to the opposite sex?
(A) Rather that of the complex, brought on by fear - as has been given - in the various experiences of the entity in and through the earth's plane. This at times as the entity has felt mentally, and at other times felt inwardly has been detrimental, yet - would that law become the fullness of the truth in the entity - let that prayer be: I will be all things unto all peoples, that I may GAIN the more. NOT in the sense of building in self as one that would live upon the efforts of another, but that - being all things - I may be understood, and may UNDERSTAND the viewpoint, the concept, the impelling force, the reflective angle to which another sees its God.
(Q) Have I a right to demand abundance, or should I be content with my small income?
(A) Be CONTENT with what thou hast, but never be SATISFIED with what thou hast. Abundance is the lot of him who is in accord with those truths of the Creative Energy, just as the world - the hills, the cattle, the gold - is mine, sayeth the Lord. I will repay, sayeth the Lord. Put thine self in that attitude, that position, of reflecting that as is of the Creative Energy, and that necessary - and over an abundance will be in thine hand.
2842-2
To be sure, there are urges from the [planetary] sojourns during the interims between earthly manifestations, but the seeking, searching entity has through its experiences in the earth lived them so thoroughly as to almost eliminate that phase of experience that one may call the other side of self during material expression.
Not that the entity has exceeded the needs, or beyond the needs of a material experience. For that whereunto one has gained is a part of one's experience. Not that things will happen irrespective of what one does, but the urge for an individual to be drawn into that experience is existent, or into that expression or phase of activity as it attracts or is attracted by its activities in human relationships.
2799-1
In the interpreting of the records here, we find those channels through which signs or symbols may be indicated as to directions the entity as a whole has taken in varied consciousnesses. Also we find written upon time and space the records from varied earthly sojourns or material manifestations. Then it is through patience that ye may, thyself, become aware of same in thy dealings with thy fellow men; or that ye may, as the Teacher of teachers gave, become aware of thy soul and its oneness with God.
In astrological aspects there are those influences to which and in which each entity may gain knowledge. The natural attraction, law of attraction, or law of repulsion, becomes manifest. For, separated from the body, the mind and the soul are drawn to that influence manifested; just as in the material world those that are thinking along the same lines, or who are desirous of individual achievement, are drawn to those sources from which help or stimulating influences may be had.
2410-1
Thus the EMOTIONAL natures of the entity are oft as the ruling forces; yet there is a deeper meaning, and a deeper side of the real purposes and desires, and those things to which the entity would attain.
Because of the very influences as we have indicated, not only from the astrological sojourns but from the material relationships, the entity oft finds itself looking for unseen and unusual things to happen, - to self as well as others. This understand: That ye dwell upon, that ye become, - just as that ye hate suddenly befalls thee. This is a natural law. To meet or become the law, these must be IDEAL forces and not of the earth-earthy - for then ye become under material law.
2034-1
As to the purposes, - we find that there were those environs in which the attraction gave the opportunity for the entity, in bringing creative influences and forces in the experience, to meet self; and thus correct much that had been and is in the way of development for the soul-entity.
For, each soul enters that it may make its paths straight. For they alone who walk the straight and narrow way may know themselves to be themselves, and yet one with the Creative Forces.
Hence the purpose for each entrance is that the opportunities may be embraced by the entity for living, being, that which is creative and in keeping with the Way.
For, the Father has not willed that any soul should perish, and is thus mindful that each soul has again and again - and yet again - the opportunity for making its paths straight.
2021-1
(Q) What associations have I had in the past with [1776]; what are the urges that come to us in the present from same, and how should we meet it?
(A) Read what we have just been giving! These are both; one has been very peculiar, and the other more peculiar; one the weak sister in one period, the other the weak brother in another period.
(Q) Through what personal relationship in the present may our lives best fulfill their highest spiritual unfoldment?
(A) As just given, correlating the ideals of each in those experiences when each indicated the BEST in THEIR experience!
Here we find, as has been given, - in the Persian experience the purpose for which the entity now [1981] came into the land was not of her own choosing, and was rather under false pretenses. Yet there were opportunities under those choices as attempted, for the entity to have become as an influence for the uplifting. But the association with the entity now known as [1776] brought those activities in which there were those questions in self, as well as in the purposes for which those activities were brought about.
And in the Egyptian experience, the activities of the entity now know as [1776] were as a leader from the Atlantean land; having become entangled in and with the use of the purposes of the children of the Law of One by or through activities with the sons of Belial. Yet the entity in the present known as [1981], as the companion for children - or the child in question in Egypt, and the associations in assisting in the establishing of those activities in the Temple Beautiful with the return of the Priest - brought into the life of the entity who was the consort or the companion in that experience, that which made for the greater development of this entity, now known as [1981] through that experience.
They each, then, have that weakness of being able to be overpowered by the personality of the other.
Then if there is the agreement, if there is the coordination of ideals and purposes, and making same work, - it can be made a beautiful companionship! It also can be made to be the belittling of one or the other. But if the association or companionship is kept ever as to the higher point for each, then they will both be the gainer thereby.
(Q) Has our past relationship been such that it can be worked out best or only in marriage at this time?
(A) Read what we have just given!
(Q) Is there anything I can do now, or will be able to do, to help him in his experiences with the Navy, or with his writing?
(A) Either of these, or both, may be a helpful influence. Don't you see in that given that each may become a helpmeet to the other; one in a destructive manner and one in a creative manner? These have proven that the one was the weaker in one experience, the other was the weaker in the other experience. One was the weaker when the man chose to be self-centered, and to carry political or material reasons rather than the spiritual. While the ideals were of the spiritual nature, both advanced or developed.
So in this experience, - is the helping of the material or of the spiritual nature? If the spiritual, go to it fast! If ONLY for material and self-indulgence, and self-gratification, back off very quickly!
(Q) Is there another with whom we each could be as happy, or happier, in marriage, than with each other in the present?
(A) O we might find twenty-five or thirty such, if you chose to make it so! It is what you make it!
There is an experience to be worked out, if you want to do it now. If you have to do it sooner or later, you just as well do it now - if you want to.
(Q) What associations have I had in the past with the following, what are the present urges and how may they be used for our mutual development? First, Gilbert Larson?
(A) In the Persian experience, and he didn't add anything to the beauty of the life! Would he in the present? In the Palestine experience, the associations were not in helpful forces. They may be made so, but we do not see them so in this.
(Q) Arthur Mountrey?
(A) We don't get Arthur Mountrey in direct association with the entity in a past experience. Acquaintance in the one just before this, and thus an attraction, but not for good or bad.
(Q) Bill Cox?
(A) In the experience before this quite close associations, and these were not bad; though these were not too good. They might be made good, if the ideals and purposes were set closer.
(Q) What have been my past associations with [849], what are the urges, and how may they be used for our mutual development?
(A) As indicated in the Egyptian experience there were both conflicting periods and then a great deal of cooperation between the two, in bringing instruction and direction to those various groups through the land. These all tended towards creative or constructive experience there.
While, in the experience just before this, there was the acquaintanceship - but not to good purpose.
In the present they may be a helpful force one to another, assisting each to be a contributing factor to creative influences in the lives of others. These are the channels where the greater help or experience might come.
(Q) What can I do toward achieving a closer understanding with those of my immediate family?
(A) Only on the basis of that we have given as the ideal. DO have the seal prepared and keep it ever before you. Know this is not merely a way of life, it is THE way of life. And in Him, and in keeping those in the immediate family closer to the instruction as may be had through the closer coordinating of purposes in the ideal as set forth there, is the better manner for self.
For, whether the activities of the entity are in the home (and this IS the highest of ANY activity) or in a life or experience as making for any activity, it is ever a teaching life.
For, being among those chosen as a channel through which there might have come the Life, light and hope of the world, this in itself is a teaching source or channel. So is thy life in thy associations with others. Seldom will ye find an individual like yourself, that others do things merely because they have seen you do them! You've never realized this. It's the same way in thine own home, among thine own friends, - yea, among those even who would question you; they, themselves, do and say things simply because you have said it!
Don't forget thy obligations, thy purposes to Him, who is the way, the truth and the light.
(Q) Have my experiences thus far accomplished anything toward "tempering the soul for greater service"?
(A) Read just what has been given. Doesn't it indicate how far you are even ahead of your own self! and yet haven't stopped to take counsel with thy better self.
(Q) Any advice to be given on how to better accomplish this?
(A) Take counsel with thy better self, and with thy life's seal as a directing or focal point upon what is the purpose, and the crossways as indicated by the shading of colors in same; and don't forget that as represented in each of the figures in the corner - and most of all the center.
(Q) Is there anything I can do to further my creative writing?
(A) Think on Him. This may appear very indefinite to some. It doesn't to the entity, when it takes thought of how the best thou hast yet accomplished is when ye trusted wholly in Him and wrote, not knowing scarcely what ye wrote.
(Q) Is my work with the O.P.A. accomplishing anything?
(A) By the fruits ye shall know thy works. These speak for themselves.
(Q) Any advice concerning betterment of position with O.P.A.?
(A) Keep in the way. Be sincere. Be consistent, and be persistent.
1981-2
As to the preparation and carrying on in the present relationships, as counsellor or advisor in conditions and relationships, we find:
From not only the very activity in which the entity has been engaged, but from the abilities and the possibilities - as these are known, as there is made the awareness of same by the actions and activities of the entity - there will be sought advice and counsel from the entity in relationship to problems and projects of the various natures that deal with the fields of activity in which the entity has prepared itself for service; in its study, in its applications throughout the experiences thus far in the material sojourns.
These then will of themselves offer the channels, and the application of self in the directions through these will bring those necessary means, funds, for the carrying on of the obligations; not only in a greater way and manner as has been indicated would be a possibility, but there will gradually come about opportunities - as changes arise in administrative forces of the government - for activities in relationships to others, other nations and other activities for their problems; not only in conditions and relationships and preparations as to the economic reactions but as for the progressive forces in their relationships to others.
How then, is the question, is this to be brought about in the experience of the entity?
Let it be known, then, in those circles through which the activities are sought, as to the abilities the body-entity offers. Let it be KNOWN that the body is open for propositions, for conditions wherein the body-entity may give the advice and counsel necessary to not only make same practical but applicable in the experience of others - in bringing into being the activities of individual things in all their varied forms.
These as we find are the manners, the ways.
Go ahead with these in that same attitude which has been given the entity. Know this, and never forget it, that: It is the spirit with which a thing is said that carries the force or power.
Then, what is the motivating force that impels? If it is fear, if it is self-exaltation - these will bring near the same results; failures!
If it is that self IS a channel through which the greater service may be rendered thy fellow man, then those natural results follow.
Remember, ever, that the Creative Forces or God giveth the increase.
Then let it be given, let it be known, let it be spread abroad with the SPIRIT not merely of good fellowship, not merely of abilities par excellent, but rather with the spirit of helpfulness. And it will, AS the very activities of self are expended, attract (as in the first principles, that are known to self); it will draw that which IS constructive in its experience!
1497-5

[THE MEANING OF THE IMAGE: The man beside the water is looking inward. The water acts like a mirror, representing self-examination. His glowing reflection shows his deeper spiritual self—the part of him that can be transformed through prayer, right ideals and attunement to God. The golden light flowing from him represents the spiritual “tone” or vibration that every person radiates. As reading 2842-2 teaches, “Each entity RADIATES that tone.” Our thoughts, motives and actions send an influence outward and affect the people and opportunities that respond to us. The different people and separate paths represent free will. Universal attraction does not force everyone to follow the same path or guarantee a particular result. Each person chooses how to respond. Some people may be drawn toward us, while others may continue in a different direction. The two men helping each other represent constructive relationships and service. Relationships have their highest value when people help one another grow rather than control, weaken or use each other. Attraction becomes spiritual when it leads to cooperation and mutual development. The paths leading toward the radiant cross show that Christ is the highest shared ideal. People may begin from different places and have different experiences, but their relationships become constructive when they are directed toward love, truth, service and God. The movement from darkness into golden light represents inner transformation. Fear, selfishness and confusion can gradually be replaced by understanding, faith and constructive action. The words on the image summarize its whole meaning: “Become within yourself the spiritual quality you hope to meet in life.” If we want love, honesty, friendship and spiritual companionship, we should first develop and express those qualities ourselves. We do not merely ask life to give us the right people—we prepare ourselves to recognize, attract and become the right kind of influence for others.]
