The Real Body - Part 1

READING 2994-1 (FOCUSING ON THE "REAL BODY")

Resignation to the conditions does not necessarily mean patience on the part of the body. Know, deep within self, that God is not mocked. And while to self in the present these conditions may not appear to be results of thine own self, - whose body is afflicted? Thy body is indeed the temple of the living God. What manner of worship hast gone on, then, in the REAL body? Not the physical being, that at present is hindered by pathological conditions, illnesses, lack of the ability of locomotion, lack of the activity of the organs that function to bring the physical conditions for carrying on, and the ability to reproduce themselves in themselves.

READING 2994-1 EXPLAINED (FOCUSING ON THE "REAL BODY")

When Cayce says, “What manner of worship hast gone on, then, in the REAL body?” he is making a very important distinction. He immediately clarifies that he does not mean the outer physical body that is sick, limited, or struggling with disease. He lists those physical problems — lack of movement, organ weakness, pathological conditions — and then separates them from what he calls the “REAL body.”

So what is the REAL body?

In Cayce’s language, the REAL body is the inner life of the person — the mental, emotional, and spiritual pattern that lives inside the physical structure. It is the unseen atmosphere that the physical body grows out of and responds to. The physical body is the outer expression. The REAL body is the inner pattern that shapes it.
Think of it like this: The physical body is the building.
The REAL body is the blueprint and the electrical system running inside it.
When he says the body is the “temple of the living God,” he is not talking about muscles and bones alone. He is talking about what fills that temple. What thoughts dominate it? What attitudes echo inside it? What emotions circulate through it? What motives shape daily life? That is the REAL body — the living field of consciousness inside the flesh.
So when he asks, “What manner of worship has gone on in the REAL body?” he is really asking:
What has been living inside you?
Have you been feeding fear, resentment, hopelessness, bitterness?
Or have you been cultivating gratitude, purpose, trust, and service?
“Worship” here does not mean church services. It means what you consistently give your attention and energy to. Whatever you focus on becomes the atmosphere of the inner body.
In Cayce’s model, the physical body reflects the inner pattern over time. If the inner life has been filled with discouragement or resistance, the nervous system and organs gradually adapt to that pattern. Not as punishment — but as expression. The REAL body is the organizing force. The physical body is the result.
You could say it this way in modern language:
The REAL body is the integrated field of mind, emotion, will, and spiritual orientation that governs how the nervous system fires, how hormones distribute, how organs function, and how cells rebuild.
It is the deeper level of identity and attitude that shapes physiology.
This is why he says resignation is not patience. You can look calm on the outside while internally being defeated. The REAL body responds to the internal state, not the outer appearance.
So the question he is asking is not, “Why is your body sick?”
The question is, “What has been happening inside your inner temple?”
If the REAL body is filled with despair, conflict, self-condemnation, or loss of purpose, then the physical systems weaken. But if the REAL body becomes aligned with hope, meaning, selfless intention, and trust in Creative Forces, then the physical body may begin to reorganize.
The REAL body is the inner organizing consciousness — the spiritual-mental pattern that lives within and shapes the physical form.
The outer body can be sick.
The REAL body is the one that must change first.

COMPLETE READING OF 2994-1

GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
EC: Yes - we have the body here, [2994].
Now, while conditions are rather serious, they are long standing, and the condition has become progressive, - we find that, with a great deal of care and patience, and persistence, the body MAY be able to care for itself - and to engage in activities that would be more in keeping with its purposes for its entering this material plane.
First, the attitudes of the body must be considered. While at times there have been hopes, these have gradually faded; and the body has at many times become very antagonistic to all that would pertain to a spiritual or mental attitude that would be helpful.
For, each anatomical structure, each atom, each vibration of each organ, must be able to rebuild itself - if there will be the returning of the elements for its recuperation to any extent. There must be created, - in mind, in purpose, in body, - those influences and forces that will resuscitate life itself in each cellular unit of the body.
These activities must begin within self as for a purpose, as for hope, as for desire. Not as boastful, not as egotistical, but that each word, each act, each hope, each element of activity, is to be selfless and unto the glory of Creative Forces, or God.
If this, then, becomes to the body as but sounding brass, forget it!
But know, He IS the Giver of life. He IS life, in thee. And if there is the seeking, if there is the belief, if there is the ACTING - in mind, in body - to SUBDUE the earth, the material disturbances - there may be added many days yet of a USEFUL service in the vineyard of thy Maker, to the glory of thy Brother, the Christ; who gave Himself that ye might have intercession with the Father, through just such circumstances in body and mind as has overtaken thee in the present.
That is the beginning, then; thy attitude.
In the physical, then, we have many changes that are to be wrought. Many of those things that have become dormant are to become active again, through the limbs, through the nerves, through the activities of the organs to coordinate with the life plasm itself that keeps the body-entity alive, that makes the body even aware - not only of its physical disability but of regrets, the feelings of imposition upon the activities and the goodness and the grace and the mercy and the love of those FOR whom the body finds it would like to do, itself.
How, then, may the physical applications be brought about? These will require that there be daily attention, not only to this attitude that has been indicated.
And search ye the scriptures daily. For in them ye have promises that are THINE! In them ye have hope. In them ye have the promise of life, of eternal life, of the water of life, of the bread of life, that makes man free; free here and now - of disease, of disturbance in the various centers of those conditions where the lack of the activity of the liver in itself has taken from the body-forces those influences that will add to the nerve and muscular forces of the body the stamina, the strength.
But these are present in the earth through the application, then, in love, in patience, in persistence, in USING that thou hast daily in hand, and the next step may be given thee.
Begin with these:
Daily - when preparing the body for bed of evening - bathe thoroughly, especially along the spine, with quite warm water; not to blister nor to overheat it, but so as to open the pores of the body-forces along the ganglia of the cerebrospinal system that takes up from that assimilated through the body the life forces themselves.
Then apply packs of Glyco-Thymoline; three or four thicknesses of cotton cloth well saturated with Glyco-Thymoline, of sufficient length to extend along the length of the spine, and especially over the area of the hips. Then over this same area, on top of the Glyco-Thymoline pack, apply packs of salt. Prepare these packs in a pad that may be warmed inside an oven; not too thick with the salt, but sew it in the sack so as to be easily handled and applied so as to become a portion of the body itself. When this is cooled, it may be taken off.
THEN massage the body thoroughly with Pure Peanut Oil, all the body will absorb, into the whole length of the spine, especially across the lumbar and sacral areas, and down the limbs to the toes. Not just daubed on, but gently, patiently, massage this into the muscular forces.
Begin and, daily, eat beets, carrots. Eat these daily. Prepare them in varied forms, and with the beets eat the tops also - well cooked. These may be prepared in various ways and manners, but never take them with vinegar or acetic acid preparations.
Do add the vitamin B and B-complex. Add it, for this body, in the B-1 Complex.
Eat plenty of fish and all sea foods. Do not take it so often for it to become obnoxious to the body, but do take all of these.
After all of this has been kept up - all of it - for some ten weeks, we will give further instructions.
In massaging the spine and across the hips and the limbs, do so with a gentle, circular motion.
And, most of all, keep that attitude indicated. And study the Book - to show thyself approved unto Him.
Pray daily; not for self, but to be used as a channel of manifestation of the mercy of God; that ye may glorify Him - not man, not others, but glorify God as manifested in the Christ.
We are through.

READING 2994-1 EXPLAINED

Reading 2994-1 begins by saying the condition of the body is serious, but it did not happen suddenly. It has been building up for a long time and has slowly become worse. Still, it is not hopeless. With real care, patience, and steady effort, the body may improve enough to live in a way that better fits its purpose in this life. The first thing that must change is not the medicine but the attitude. Over time, hope has faded. Discouragement has grown. There has even been resistance toward spiritual or mental approaches that might help. Simply resigning yourself to being sick is not the same as being patient. Giving up inside is not the same as cooperating with healing. The body is called a temple of the living God, and that means what happens inside—your thoughts, motives, emotions, and choices—matters. “God is not mocked” means that life reflects what we sow. This is not punishment. It is cause and effect. If the inner life has been filled with despair, resentment, or self-pity, that atmosphere affects the body. So healing must begin with a shift inside. There must be renewed purpose, renewed hope, renewed desire to live—not in a proud or ego-driven way, but in a humble way where each word and action is aligned with something higher than self. If spiritual talk becomes empty noise, it will do nothing. But if there is real seeking, real belief, and real action—both in mind and in daily habits—then material disturbances can slowly be subdued.
The reading explains that every cell in the body is designed to rebuild itself. Every organ, every atom, every tiny vibration of tissue depends on proper nourishment and proper circulation to repair and renew. But for that rebuilding to happen, the influences of mind, purpose, and body must support life rather than drain it. In modern terms, the nervous system, belief system, and physical system must cooperate. The liver in particular is mentioned as being sluggish, and when the liver is not working well, the nerves and muscles lose stamina and strength. So the healing plan addresses both attitude and biology. Spiritually, the person is encouraged to study scripture daily—not as a ritual, but as a way of feeding the mind with hope and promise. Prayer is encouraged, not to beg for relief, but to become a channel for something good, to live for a purpose beyond self. That shift alone changes how energy flows through the body.
Physically, there is a very practical routine. Each evening, before bed, the body should be bathed with quite warm water along the spine, not hot enough to burn but warm enough to open the pores and stimulate circulation along the nerve centers of the back. Then a cloth soaked in Glyco-Thymoline should be placed along the spine, especially over the hips, and over that a warmed salt pack should be applied. The warmth and salt help draw congestion and stimulate deeper circulation. After that, the spine and limbs should be massaged gently but thoroughly with pure peanut oil, especially the lower back and sacral area, working the oil into the muscles with steady circular motion rather than just rubbing it on the surface. This is meant to improve circulation, support nerve flow, and strengthen muscular tone. Diet is also important. Daily beets and carrots are recommended, including the beet tops, well cooked and never combined with vinegar. Vitamin B and B-complex, especially B-1, should be added. Fish and seafood should be eaten regularly but not so much that the body rejects it. All of this should be done consistently for ten weeks before expecting further instructions. The key word is consistency.
At its heart, this reading teaches that healing is cooperation. The body cannot simply be fixed from the outside. The inner life must shift toward hope, purpose, and selflessness. The nervous system must be stimulated. The organs must be supported. Nutrients must be supplied. Daily habits must change. And above all, the attitude must align with life instead of resisting it. The message is not harsh but firm: the body can improve if mind, spirit, and physical action begin working together. Pray daily, study what builds hope, treat the body with care, persist patiently, and let every action move toward life rather than defeat. That is the foundation from which recovery may begin.
