The Super-Conscious Bridge: Awakening Oneness Between Soul and Spirit

READING 900-21 EXPLAINED

Reading 900-21 explains that within every person there are different levels of being, and these must be understood clearly in order to understand the relationship between the soul and spiritual forces. The physical mind is the part we use every day for thinking, decision-making, and acting in the world. The soul is the deeper identity of the individual, the true self that carries meaning, memory, and purpose. The spirit is the divine force, the connection to God or the Creative source. However, the reading makes it clear that the soul and the spirit are not directly joined in a simple way. Between them is what is called the super-conscious, and this is described as the “divide.” This divide is not a barrier that blocks connection, but rather a higher level of awareness that acts like a meeting place or bridge between the human self and the divine. It is the point where oneness can occur, where the individual may experience unity with God.
This super-conscious level is not something that belongs to the physical world. It cannot be reached through ordinary thinking, logic, or external activity alone. It must be awakened from within, and this awakening is individual. Not everyone experiences it automatically, because it requires a certain kind of inner development. The reading teaches that this awakening happens when a person begins to bring together the different parts of themselves into harmony. The physical mind, the soul’s awareness, and the spiritual intention must become aligned and unified. When these are divided or in conflict, the connection to the super-conscious remains closed or unclear. But when they become one in purpose and direction, the individual begins to approach that higher awareness where true understanding can occur.
To reach this state, the reading gives very practical guidance. A person must study sincerely and seek truth with the desire to live it, not just to know it. This means developing discernment, learning how to recognise what is true and what is not, and being able to separate selfish or surface thinking from deeper spiritual truth. It also involves living a clean and honest life, keeping one’s thoughts and actions free from corruption, negativity, and harmful influences. Avoiding even the appearance of wrongdoing is important, because it shapes both inner character and outward expression. At the foundation of all this is belief, not just intellectual belief, but a real and active trust that God exists and that a true relationship with the Creator is possible. This belief becomes the motivation that drives a person to continue seeking, growing, and aligning themselves with something higher.
The reading emphasises that the ultimate goal is oneness. This is not simply believing in God or learning about spiritual ideas, but becoming inwardly aligned so that the individual life reflects that divine connection. When a person reaches this state of unity, the divide of the super-conscious is no longer something distant or hidden. It becomes active, and the connection between the soul and the spirit begins to flow naturally. Understanding then comes from within rather than from outside sources, and life is guided by a deeper sense of clarity, purpose, and inner knowing. In simple terms, this teaching shows that the path to spiritual understanding is not about gaining more information, but about bringing the whole self into alignment so that the human and the divine can become one in experience.

THE SUPER-CONSCIOUS "DIVIDE"

The super-conscious, as described here, is a very subtle but central part of human experience, and it is often misunderstood because of the word “divide.” At first glance, the word makes it sound like something that separates the soul from the spirit, as if there is a gap or distance between the human self and the divine. However, this is not what is meant. The divide is not a wall or a barrier that blocks connection, but rather a higher level of awareness that sits between the two, acting as a meeting place. It is like a bridge or a point of contact where the soul, which is your personal identity, and the spirit, which is the divine force, can come into alignment and experience oneness. In this sense, the divide is actually where connection happens, not where it is prevented.
This super-conscious level is beyond the normal activity of the physical mind. It does not belong to the everyday world of thinking, analysing, or reacting. You cannot reach it simply by using logic, gathering information, or trying harder with your thoughts. That is because the physical mind operates on surface-level awareness, while the super-conscious operates on a deeper, unified level of knowing. It is not accessed by effort alone, but by a shift in the whole person. This is why the reading says it must be awakened from within. It is already present in the individual, but it is not active or open until certain inner conditions are met.
The awakening of the super-conscious happens when the different parts of a person begin to come into harmony. The physical mind, the soul’s deeper awareness, and the spiritual intention must start to move in the same direction. If a person is divided within themselves, for example thinking one way, feeling another, and acting in a way that contradicts both, then this inner conflict keeps the super-conscious closed. But when a person begins to live with sincerity, clarity, and alignment, something changes. There is a quiet integration that takes place, and in that integration, the super-conscious begins to open. It is not a dramatic or forced experience, but more like a gradual clearing, where awareness becomes deeper, more stable, and more connected.
At this level, understanding is different from ordinary knowledge. It is not something that is learned from outside sources, but something that is recognised from within. A person may begin to sense truth more directly, to feel guided in a way that is steady and clear rather than confused or reactive. There is less struggle to “figure things out” and more of a natural knowing that comes from alignment. This is what is meant by the meeting place between the human and the divine. It is the point where the individual no longer feels separate, but begins to experience a sense of unity, where their thoughts, intentions, and actions are in harmony with something greater than themselves.
Because this level is not part of the physical world, it cannot be controlled or manufactured through external means. It is deeply personal and develops through inner growth. Each individual must come to it in their own way, through their own process of learning, living, and aligning themselves with truth. It cannot be borrowed, copied, or forced by someone else. This is why the reading emphasises personal responsibility and sincere seeking. The super-conscious is always present as a potential, but it only becomes active when the individual is ready to meet it. In that moment, the divide is no longer something that separates, but something that unites, allowing the soul and the spirit to function together as one.

SUPER-CONSCIOUSNESS VS CHRIST-CONSCIOUSNESS

There is a very strong connection between what is described as the super-conscious and what is often called Christ-consciousness, and understanding this connection helps bring clarity to both ideas. Christ-consciousness does not simply refer to the historical life of Jesus Christ, but to a state of awareness in which a person becomes fully aligned with the divine. It describes a condition where a person’s thoughts, feelings, and actions are no longer driven by fear, ego, or separation, but instead reflect unity, truth, and a deep inner connection with God. In simple terms, it is what a human life looks like when it is fully in harmony with the divine presence.
When we place this alongside the idea of the super-conscious, the relationship becomes clearer. The super-conscious is the inner bridge or meeting point between the soul, which is the individual’s personal identity, and the spirit, which is the divine source. It is not the final state itself, but the place where connection becomes possible. It is like a doorway within the person that allows the human self to come into alignment with the divine. When this level of awareness is awakened, the divide between the soul and the spirit is no longer experienced as separation, but as a point of union. However, simply having access to this bridge does not mean a person is fully living in that unity.
Christ-consciousness can be understood as the result of this process. It is what happens when the super-conscious is not only opened, but fully lived out in everyday life. When a person brings their physical thinking, their deeper identity, and their spiritual intention into complete alignment, the connection becomes steady and continuous rather than occasional. In this state, a person begins to act naturally from clarity instead of confusion, from truth instead of fear, and from alignment rather than inner conflict. They no longer need to constantly search for meaning or direction, because there is a quiet and stable sense of knowing that comes from within. This reflects the idea of oneness that is often expressed in spiritual teachings, where the individual no longer feels separate from God, but experiences life as being in unity with that higher presence.
In this way, the super-conscious and Christ-consciousness are closely related but not identical. The super-conscious is the mechanism or pathway through which connection is made possible, while Christ-consciousness is the lived experience of that connection when it becomes fully realised. One describes the bridge, and the other describes what happens when a person has crossed that bridge and continues to live from that place of unity. This teaching shows that spiritual development is not only about gaining knowledge or understanding ideas, but about becoming inwardly aligned so that the connection between the human and the divine can be fully expressed in everyday life.

READING 900-21

(Q) Explain what the divide between the soul and spiritual forces is? How manifest, and how we may study self to gain the approach to that divide.
(A) This [is] of the spiritual entity in its entirety. The super-conscious [is] the divide, that one-ness lying between the soul and the spirit force, within the spiritual entity. Not of earth forces at all, only awakened with the spiritual indwelling and acquired individually.
(Q) How may the individual think, study, and act to acquire this awakening?
(A) Study to show thyself approved unto Him, rightly dividing the words of truth, keeping self unspotted from the world, avoiding the appearance of evil, for as is given, those who would seek God must believe that He IS, and a rewarder of those who would seek Him. That is, that the Creator has that One-ness with the individual to make that One-ness with Him. As is given in the conditions as is manifest through those who would seek the One-ness with God, for only those who have approached sufficient to make the mind of the physical, the mind of the soul, the mind of the spiritual, One with Him, may understand or gather that necessary to approach that understanding.
