READING 900-20 EXPLAINED
Reading 900-20 explains that every soul is created with the potential to become one with God, but this outcome is not automatic because God has given each person free will. This means that although the natural direction of every soul is toward unity with God, each individual has the ability to choose whether to follow that path or to turn away from it. The reading makes it clear that God does not desire any soul to be lost or separated, but at the same time, He does not force anyone into unity. Instead, He allows each person the freedom to choose, and this choice is expressed through the will. Because of this, a soul can move closer to God by choosing alignment with truth, love, and spiritual growth, or it can move further away by choosing separation, self-centeredness, or actions that go against that higher law. When the reading speaks about an entity “banishing itself,” it means that separation from God is not something imposed by God, but something a person brings upon themselves through repeated choices that move them away from unity.
The idea of destiny in this reading is also important, because it is not described as a fixed or unchangeable outcome, but as a law or direction that all life is meant to follow. In this sense, destiny is the natural movement toward becoming one with God, but it still requires cooperation from the individual. A person is not forced to fulfil this destiny; rather, they must choose it. This is why the reading also addresses the idea of fate and explains that while there are many influences in life, such as environment, circumstances, and relationships, the will of the individual is still able to act independently of these factors. In other words, a person is never completely controlled by external conditions, because the power of choice always remains. This highlights the responsibility each person has for their own spiritual direction, as their decisions shape their movement either toward or away from unity.
Finally, when the reading speaks about a soul that has completed its development on the earthly plane, it does not give a clear measure of how close that soul is to God, because at that stage the journey is no longer about distance or progress in the usual sense. Instead, the soul continues to grow within God, entering into a deeper relationship where its will becomes aligned with the divine will. This does not mean the soul loses its identity, but rather that it reaches a state where its choices naturally reflect unity with God. In this way, the ultimate goal is not simply to reach a certain level, but to live in ongoing development within that unity, where the individual and the divine are no longer in conflict but are working together as one.
READING 900-20
(Q) Is it the destiny of every spiritual entity to eventually become one with God?
(A) Unless that entity wills its banishment. As is given with man, in the giving of the soul, the will, wherewith to manifest in the entity, whether spiritual, whether material. With that, the entity, either spiritual or physical, may banish itself. Again a compliance with law; as has been given, Hell [was] prepared for Satan and his angels, yet God has not WILLED that ANY soul should perish. Giving of will to His creation, Man, that man might be one with Him, giving man the privilege of exercising his (man's) will, or exercising His (God's) will to be one with Him. As in destiny, meaning a law, compliance with a law, destined to be subject, or BEING the law. The destruction of some destined to the contribution to the destruction of such law.
(Q) Is there such a thing as fate? [See Destiny]
(A) Depending upon what is meant by fate. All elements in relative conditions have their bearing upon every element in the earth plane, and the will of any condition being with mind may act against such condition.
(Q) When an entity has completed its development, such that it no longer needs to manifest on earth's plane, how far then is it along towards its complete development towards God?
