The Human Mind and Spirit

Posted on Facebook by Samoa Lualim

Edgar Cayce meant that the human mind and the spirit are two very different things. The human mind comes from our life on Earth. It is shaped by our brain, our emotions, our childhood, our culture, and everything we experience through our physical senses. Because of this, the mind thinks in a straight line—past, present, and future—and often sees things as separate and limited. It uses logic, analysis, and personal desire to understand the world, but it can also get confused, fearful, or influenced by ego. The spirit, however, is the eternal part of us. It exists beyond the limits of the physical world and is directly connected to God. It does not depend on time, distance, or the physical body. The spirit simply knows truth in a deep, direct way, without needing to think it through. Cayce wanted people to understand the difference because spiritual awakening depends on learning when a message comes from the mind—full of fear, fantasy, or confusion—and when it comes from the spirit, which speaks with clarity, peace, and certainty. The mind belongs to the physical world, but the spirit belongs to the eternal world. When we quiet the mind through meditation and stillness, the spirit can guide us. In short, you are not your mind—you are the spirit that uses the mind, and knowing this helps you receive true spiritual guidance.

THOUGHTS FROM THE EGO, MIND AND SPIRIT

Thoughts from the ego, mind, and spirit each feel different, and learning to tell them apart can help you understand yourself better. Ego thoughts are usually loud, emotional, and focused on protecting your self-image. They often make you feel anxious, defensive, or superior. Ego thoughts compare you to others, want praise or control, and push you to act quickly out of fear or pride. Examples include, “I need people to see how good I am,” “I have to be right,” or “I need this now.” The ego is always concerned with how you appear and whether you feel safe or important. Mind thoughts are more logical and practical. They come from reasoning, memory, and problem-solving. These thoughts break things down step by step, analyze possibilities, and try to understand how things work. They are usually neutral, not emotional, and focus on planning or organizing. Examples are, “Let me think this through,” “If I do A, then B will happen,” or “What is the best way to fix this?” The mind is a useful tool, but it operates only within the physical world and what it already knows. Spirit thoughts, on the other hand, are gentle, calm, and wise. They often arrive quietly and bring a feeling of peace, warmth, or clarity. They do not argue or pressure you; they simply feel true. Spirit thoughts align with love, compassion, humility, and honesty. They often come during quiet moments, like meditation, prayer, or stillness, and they support the good of everyone involved—not just you. Examples include, “Be patient,” “Speak gently,” “Forgive them,” or “You are not alone.” These thoughts feel like deep inner knowing rather than mental reasoning. A simple way to tell the difference is to ask: Does this thought make me afraid, angry, or superior? If so, it is likely ego. Does it try to logically figure things out? Then it is the mind. Does it feel peaceful, loving, and quietly right? That is the spirit. Edgar Cayce explained it simply: the ego reacts, the mind thinks, and the spirit knows. The voice of the spirit is like a soft, steady whisper—never loud or pushy. When in doubt, ask yourself, “Does this thought bring me closer to love or closer to fear?” Thoughts that lead to fear or tension usually come from ego or an overactive mind. Thoughts that lead to love, openness, and inner peace come from the spirit.

HOW TO OPEN TO SPIRITUAL INTUITION

To open safely to spiritual intuition, you must begin with the right intention. Wanting spiritual experiences for power or attention can be harmful, but wanting them to grow, help others, and live closer to God is safe. The next step is creating quiet inside yourself. The spirit speaks softly, so you must learn to calm your mind every day, even for just a few minutes. Sit still, breathe slowly, focus on your heart, and listen without forcing anything. A loving emotional state is also important. When you feel calm, kind, and humble, you naturally connect with higher spiritual guidance. When you feel angry, afraid, or proud, the channel becomes unclear. Meditation is best done early in the morning, when the world is quiet and the mind is not full of thoughts. Always ask for protection before any spiritual practice—invite God, Christ, or your guardian angels to surround you with light and guide you. Keep your body healthy and relaxed, because a tense or unbalanced body makes spiritual intuition harder to sense. Avoid judging others, because judgment closes you off spiritually, while compassion and forgiveness open you up. Pay attention to the feeling that comes with a thought or impression: spiritual guidance feels peaceful, warm, and steady; ego or imagination feels tense, dramatic, or confusing. Do not chase psychic or mystical experiences for their own sake—seek God first, and spiritual gifts will come naturally when you are ready. Finally, live according to the guidance you receive. When you act with patience, kindness, and truth, you show you are sincere, and more guidance will come. This loving and humble approach keeps you safe and helps true spiritual intuition unfold gently and naturally.

A Safe Step-by-Step Meditation for Intuition

A safe way to awaken intuition is to sit quietly where you won’t be disturbed and allow your body and mind to relax. Sit comfortably with your back straight and take slow breaths until your muscles soften and your thoughts begin to slow down. Place your attention on your heart, not your head, and imagine a warm, soft light forming there. This light represents God’s presence within you. When you feel calm, say quietly in your mind, “Father, guide me,” or “Spirit within me, speak.” Do not force anything to happen—intuition grows in stillness, not pressure. Simply listen inside yourself without expectation. Pay attention to gentle feelings, soft impressions, or a quiet sense of knowing. If nothing comes, that is perfectly fine; the meditation is working by training your mind to become quiet. End the session by giving thanks, breathing deeply, and slowly returning to the room. Practiced regularly, this meditation helps the spirit’s voice become easier to recognize.

A Prayer for Divine Guidance

“Father, I open my heart to Your presence. Clear my mind of fear, pride, and confusion, and let Your light guide my thoughts, my choices, and my steps. Help me hear the soft voice of the spirit within me and follow it with love and humility. Surround me with Your protection and let only what is good, true, and uplifting enter my mind. Lead me toward the path that brings me closer to You and helps me serve others with kindness and wisdom. Walk with me today and speak to me in the stillness of my heart. Amen.”

Signs Your Spiritual Gifts Are Awakening

You may notice your spiritual gifts awakening when you begin to feel more peaceful inside and less interested in drama, fear, or conflict. Your intuition may quietly strengthen, and you might sense inner guidance more easily, such as knowing what feels right without needing long explanations. You may also become more sensitive to other people’s emotions, more compassionate, and more aware of the deeper meaning behind your experiences. Dreams may become clearer or feel more meaningful. You may begin to feel gentle “nudges” to act kindly, forgive, or help others without being asked. Another sign is a growing desire for truth, meditation, prayer, or spiritual reading. These changes happen softly, not dramatically. True spiritual awakening is calm, loving, and steady—not confusing or frightening. It brings clarity, peace, and a sense of being guided from within.

How Edgar Cayce Described True Mystical Union

Edgar Cayce explained true mystical union as the moment when a person becomes fully aware that God lives within them and speaks directly to their soul. In this state, the person feels completely connected to the Creator, not as a belief but as an inner experience. It is not dramatic or emotional; it is a calm, powerful knowing that you and God are in harmony. Cayce said this union happens when the human will becomes aligned with God’s will, and the person chooses love, truth, and service above selfish desires. In mystical union, fear disappears, doubt fades, and the heart becomes filled with peace and certainty. The person understands—not through the mind, but through the spirit—that life is guided, purposeful, and eternal. Cayce taught that Christ demonstrated this perfectly, and that each soul can experience this connection by living with humility, compassion, and a sincere desire to walk with God. Mystical union is simply the soul remembering its true home in the divine.

Jesus' Teachings as Steps to Awakening the Christ Consciousness

Posted on Facebook by Samoa Lualim

(Q) Should the Christ-Consciousness be described as the awareness within each soul, imprinted in pattern on the mind and waiting to be awakened by the will, of the soul's oneness with God?

(A) Correct. That's the idea exactly!
5749-14
...it is ever those that draw nearer to the universal consciousness of the Christ that come closer to the perfect relationship to the Creative Forces or God, the Father - which the man Jesus attained when He gave of Himself to the world, that through Him, by and in Him, each entity might come to know the true relationship with the Father.
3357-2
For, all men (and He was a man) have fallen short of the glory of God. Only in Him, through Him, by Him may one attain to that true sonship, that true fellowship, that true relationship to the Creative Forces or God.
3357-2
Edgar Cayce often spoke of Christ consciousness as something far larger than a belief system or a religious title. In his readings, it is described as a built-in spiritual pattern placed within every soul at the moment of its creation. You could think of it as a divine blueprint, a spark of God’s own nature that each person carries.
This “imprint” isn’t something external that we must earn—it is something already present, but often dormant or forgotten. It represents qualities such as unconditional love, patience, forgiveness, compassion, unity, and complete alignment with the will of God. In Cayce’s view, these qualities are not just virtues; they are the natural expression of a soul awakened to its true identity.
Where Jesus comes in is as the perfect example of this awakened state. Cayce emphasizes that Jesus didn’t just teach the way—He lived it fully, embodying what it looks like when Christ consciousness is active in a human life. Jesus becomes the model, the roadmap, and the demonstration of the divine pattern already within us.
According to Cayce, Jesus’ teachings—such as loving your neighbor, forgiving freely, seeking inner peace, serving others, resisting selfish impulses, and living with humility—are not merely moral instructions. They are practical steps for awakening the dormant Christ consciousness within each soul. When a person lives these teachings consistently, the inner divine imprint begins to emerge more clearly. Over time, the mind and heart become aligned with God’s creative forces, just as Jesus’ were.
In this sense, salvation is not only about belief but about transformation. It is the process of gradually uncovering and expressing the God-given nature inside us. Jesus shows us how to do this by walking the path Himself: facing human struggles, cultivating spiritual discipline, and demonstrating perfect oneness with God.
So, “Jesus’ teachings are the steps for awakening Christ consciousness,” means that:
The pattern is already inside you.
Jesus shows you how to bring it into full expression.
It is a lifelong process of remembering who you truly are and learning to live from that inner divine center.
Christ Consciousness as the Divine Imprint
Every soul is created with a built-in divine pattern, which Cayce calls Christ consciousness.
This imprint is the God-nature within—the soul’s original spiritual identity.
It includes qualities such as:
Unconditional love
Forgiveness
Compassion
Patience
Unity with God
Selflessness
Inner peace
It is dormant or underdeveloped in most people because of ego, fear, or worldly distractions.
Jesus as the Full Expression of This Imprint
Jesus represents the perfect activation of Christ consciousness.
He lived in complete harmony with God’s will.
Jesus didn’t just teach spiritual truths—He embodied them fully.
He serves as the template or model, showing what the divine imprint looks like fully awakened.
Jesus’ Teachings = Steps for Awakening the Imprint
Cayce sees Jesus’ teachings as practical spiritual exercises, not just moral advice.
Examples of these steps:
1. Love and Compassion
“Love your neighbor as yourself” is not just ethical—it is the way to activate the soul’s true nature.
2. Forgiveness
Forgiving others removes barriers of resentment and fear, allowing divine qualities to flow.
3. Humility
Letting go of ego opens the soul to its deeper, God-centered identity.
4. Selflessness and Service
Helping others awakens the divine pattern because the soul was created for cooperation, not isolation.
5. Prayer and Meditation
These practices tune the mind to the higher consciousness already within.
6. Patience and Steadfastness
Patience is a spiritual discipline that aligns the soul with eternal truths rather than temporary emotions.
7. Overcoming Fear and Selfish Desire
Recognizing and releasing fear allows the inner divine nature to rise.
Awakening the Christ Consciousness
As a person lives Jesus’ teachings, the divine pattern inside them becomes more active.
Transformation happens gradually—moment by moment, choice by choice.
The awakened Christ consciousness expresses itself in daily life through:
Peace of mind
Kindness
Inner strength
Wisdom
A sense of unity with all life
The Goal
The ultimate purpose of spiritual growth, according to Cayce, is to:
Remember the divine imprint within, and
Express it through loving, Christ-like living.
...as one reads or sees the interpretations of these in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, who became the Christ, the Savior, through fulfilling those purposes, one realizes that indeed He has become the way, the truth and the light.
