paralleling ASFG 1 lesson on “THE OPEN DOOR”
BIBLE READING: Jeremiah 1:17-19 and Galatians 2:19-21
ASFG Lesson 8: The Open Door - Kingdom of The Father
(page 70)
Overview: The “Kingdom of the Father” as Inner Realization
In ASFG Lesson 8, “The Kingdom of the Father,” Edgar Cayce explains that the Kingdom of God is not a distant realm, but a spiritual state of consciousness awakened within. This awareness—called the Christ Consciousness—is the living realization of divine unity between the human and the divine. To “open the door” to this kingdom means awakening the indwelling Christ Spirit through faith, humility, and prayer.
The passage stresses that the “Christ Consciousness” gives access to divine power, love, and wisdom already within each soul. Doubt and fear are not punishments, but invitations to turn back to God in prayer. Thus, to enter the Kingdom of the Father is to live with God-conscious awareness, letting divine will direct one’s life rather than personal ego or ambition.
Paul’s Testimony (Galatians 2:19–21): The Death of the Ego
The notes interpret Paul’s words as the direct testimony of a person who has attained Christ Consciousness:
“I have been crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me...” (Galatians 2:20)
Paul’s transformation illustrates what Cayce means by the “open door.” Paul still lived in a physical body and functioned in daily life, but inwardly his consciousness had changed completely. He had transcended the “law” (the outer code of behavior) because he embodied it—he had become one with it. His human self (ego) no longer ruled; his life was now animated by the Christ Spirit.
In this state, Paul was beyond doing wrong not because he lost free will, but because his will and God’s will had become one. He had entered the Kingdom of Heaven within—that spiritual condition where divine grace and human purpose are unified.
Jeremiah’s Example (Jeremiah 1:17–19): Strength in Divine Service
In Jeremiah 1:17–19, God commands the prophet to stand firm and deliver His message without fear, promising divine protection and strength:
“Be not dismayed… for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.”
This is used to illustrate what happens once the “door” to the Kingdom is open. Like Jeremiah, the awakened soul is called into service—not to withdraw from the world but to act within it under divine direction. Challenges, opposition, and misunderstanding may come, but God’s presence gives courage and endurance.
Thus, those who reach the Christ Consciousness must act as channels for divine light in the world, trusting that the Spirit will sustain and protect them.
The Inner Death and Rebirth: Letting Go of the Self
The lesson and notes both emphasize that the “death” required to enter the Kingdom is not physical but spiritual—the death of the ego. Most people fear this because it feels like losing identity or individuality. But in reality, it is not extinction—it is liberation.
When we surrender our self-centered identity, we awaken to our true individuality—the divine self that lives eternally in harmony with God. Paul’s experience demonstrates that we do not vanish; instead, we “live through Christ,” experiencing a joy and consciousness far greater than personal selfhood. This is the “ecstasy” of oneness with the Divine.
The Triumph of True Individuality: Becoming the Christ
Cayce’s notes conclude that to relinquish the ego is not to lose personality but to enlarge it infinitely. Paul did not become less himself—he became more. To assume the Christ Consciousness is to assume divine individuality, to be reborn into the image of the Christ Spirit within.
This is the supreme victory of the soul—the realization that “the Father and I are one.” The “door” to the Kingdom of God is therefore not found in outward achievement or belief but in inner transformation. When we surrender self-will and let the Christ Spirit live through us, we become co-creators with God, radiating love and peace to the world.
Summary Prayer
“As the Father knoweth me, so may I know the Father,
through the Christ Spirit, the door to the Kingdom of the Father.
Show Thou me the way.”
This prayer encapsulates the lesson: the soul’s journey is to know God as God knows us, through awakening the Christ Spirit within. That awakening is the Kingdom of the Father.
Affirmation
A statement of divine truth to align thought and will with the Christ Consciousness.
“The Christ within me is my life, my strength, and my peace.
Not I, but the Christ lives in me.
I open the door of my heart to His presence,
and through Him, I dwell in the Kingdom of the Father.”
Focus on the words “Christ lives in me.” Feel the shift from self-effort to divine flow. Repeat this morning and evening, especially when fear or doubt arises.
Prayer
A devotional expression to consciously unite with the Divine Will.
“O Father, Thou who art the Light within all lights,
make me aware of Thy presence in every thought, every act, every breath.
Strengthen me, as Thou didst strengthen Jeremiah,
to stand firm in truth and love, unafraid of the world.
Let me die to self, that the Christ Spirit may live through me.
May my words, my deeds, and my silence
bear witness to Thy Kingdom within.
In the name of the Christ Consciousness, Amen.”
Pray this when you feel challenged or misunderstood, remembering that divine strength sustains you just as God sustained His prophets and apostles.
Meditation
A quiet attunement exercise drawn from Cayce’s method of inner listening.
Purpose: To enter consciously into the Kingdom of the Father — the Christ awareness within.
Center the body. Sit quietly, spine straight, hands resting lightly. Breathe slowly and deeply.
Feel the peace of God descend like light.
Focus the mind. Repeat softly:
“Be still and know that I am God.”
Let each repetition quiet the surface of the mind.
Open the heart. Visualize a radiant door of light within your chest — the door of the heart.
See it slowly open, and sense a warm, golden presence entering — the Christ Spirit.
Attune in silence. Rest in that presence. Feel that you and the Light are one.
There is no separation — only life, love, and awareness.
Close with gratitude.
“Father, I am Thine. Work through me.
Let Thy Kingdom come in earth, as it is in heaven — within me, this day.”
Remain in the stillness a few moments. When thoughts return, bring the awareness of that inner light into your daily activities.
